This applied to all workers, regardless of age, gender, or industry.<\/p>\n<h3>Parental Leave Extension<\/h3>\n<p>In addition to paid maternity leave of 16 weeks<strong>, both parents in Spain can now take up to 8 weeks of unpaid parental leave<\/strong>. This can be used intermittently until the child turns 8 years old and can be taken for various reasons, such as school changes or personal difficulties the child might face.<\/p>\n<p>Parents with disabled children can now also take up to 26 weeks of leave.<\/p>\n<h3>Plans for the Promotion of LGBT+ Equality<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lexology.com\/library\/detail.aspx?g=1f91100a-e7e6-4db9-ad90-53b3f391945f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>A new law<\/strong><\/a><strong> requires companies with 50 or more employees to implement a plan for the promotion of LGBT+ equality as of March 2024<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Required plans <strong>must prevent and address harassment or violence against LGBT+ individuals<\/strong>, as discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, and sexual characteristics is prohibited in the workplace.<\/p>\n<p>Failure to ensure equal treatment for LGBT+ employees can result in legal consequences. The law categorizes violations into minor, serious, and very serious, with fines reaching up to EUR 150,000.<\/p>\n<p>For now, the specifics of the plan requires are <strong>subject to collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) and agreement with worker representatives<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>Predictable and Transparent Working Conditions as per EU Laws<\/h3>\n<p>In February 2024, Spain&#8217;s Council of Ministers approved a decree to implement a European directive on transparent and predictable working conditions.<\/p>\n<p>A key element of this decree <strong>bans companies from unilaterally reducing part-time hours of work schedules<\/strong>.
